Don Lum

Don Lum has been teaching violin for over forty years. Beginning his studies with Douglas Stewart, Don has received training in Canada as well as the United States. As both a performer and educator, Don remains active as a chamber musician, most recently being the Concertmaster for the Vancouver Sinfonietta; in addition, Don regularly acts as an adjudicator for music festivals, and works as an examiner for the Royal Conservatory of Music. He is also the annual strings coordinator for the Festival on the Lake.

As a clinician, Don has presented workshops in Western Canada pertaining to violin technique. Of particular importance to him is the prevention of injury; correcting bad form and posture is one extent of his expertise. Don takes pride in his work, using his knowledge and experience to develop emerging talent.

Don’s students have been prizewinners of local, provincial and national awards. His students have also gone to study at prestigious institutions, including the Peabody Conservatory, the Eastman School of Music, the Mannes School of Music as well as the Cleveland Institute of Music.
