Deadline to apply: December 15, 2017.
The competition fee is $50, which includes required individual membership (NOTE: if you are already a member, please see adjusted amounts below). Payment is either by cheque (made out to the Alberta String Association, and forwarded to 203, 10221-111th Street Edmonton AB, T5K 2W5) or via Paypal (see links at the bottom of this page).
This competition is a performance opportunity open to all young, pre-professional Albertan string players.
This year, candidates are asked to:
- send a website link of an unedited video performance (e.g. YouTube, Vimeo, etc.) of the movement that is intended to be performed with orchestra (assumed timing of more than 10 minutes; otherwise a few movements of the same work with orchestra). The recorded performance is to be with piano accompaniment.
- arrange a videotaping session with one of the following ASA representatives (in Edmonton: Renee Perez; in Lacombe: Cristian Neacsu; in Grande-Prairie: Krista McLauchlan). The recordings will then be placed on YouTube and a link sent on the candidate’s behalf. Performers are to make arrangements with their own piano accompanists for the videotaping session.
All video recordings should be received by January 15 2018.
The winner’s performance will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2018 @ 8:00PM with the Burman Chamber Orchestra (Lacombe, AB) under Maestro Cristian Neacsu.
Following this event, the Alberta String Association will arrange a Gala Concert, to feature some of the performers whose performances were highly ranked in the competition (TBA).
